Workshop Description:

Attention: Teachers

The Council for Economic Education, NY, is pleased to offer free professional development webinars for teachers nationwide. The webinars cover multiple topics on how to integrate personal finance and economics in the classroom and create a fun learning experience for your students.

The Personal Finance Portfolio: Arguably the most important lesson economics educators can teach is the skill to budget personal resources appropriately. There is no better way to this than through the research and building of an intensive portfolio of all of life’s many costs. Through a classroom simulation of life itself, students can learn the intricacies of paying rent, student loans, insurance, transportation, even groceries. This webinar will explain a step by step process and share resources for implementing such a project in your classroom.

Presenter: Andrew Menfi received his Bachelors of Arts in Social Studies at Binghamton University and his Master's of Arts in Secondary Social Studies Education at Columbia: Teacher College. He has spent the entirety of his career teaching social studies in New York City, and currently teaches at New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math & Science in the Bronx. He has taught Economics, Government, Legal Studies, Global Studies, Independent Research, and Advanced Placement U.S. History and is the current lead of the independent senior project project team at his school.

When you attend the webinar(s), you will leave with relevant lessons, resources and tools that can be implemented the next day. If you are interested, but cannot attend the live webinar, please register to get access to the archived version. You must attend a live webinar or listen to a recorded webinar for at least 45 minutes in order to receive a certificate.
